HMS Argus, an aircraft
carrier which had a long career in the Royal Navy
at the forefront in the early years of naval aviation development and
took part in some historically important convoys to Russia and Malta.

Having enlisted in the Royal
Navy, Victor died in the EMS Hospital, Whitchurch, Cardiff, Glamorgan,
Wales. This was part of Cardiff City Asylum turned over to the military
to become the largest emergency service hospital in South Wales. Able
Seaman Saunders succumbed to Acute Meningitis and Osteomyelitis of the
frontal bone on 24 January 1942.The death of Mrs
Elizabeth L Saunders was registered in Surrey Mid E District for the
September Quarter of 1958.
As in many cases the family might have decided that they
wanted to be near to where their serviceman or woman was commemorated.
