4th Canadian Artillery Regiment

After leaving Southey Hall Capt. Gagnon was posted to France where he fought in the Ardennes. Following that he returned to Britain where he joined what was a new British division called  “6th Airborne". This unit specialised in landing troops by parachute and gliders into enemy occupied territory and was extremely dangerous.

On the  24th of March 1945 a large landing of troops by parachute and glider took place in France.

It was called  'Operation Varsity' and the objective was to drive the enemy from the East Bank of the River Rhine.

Capt Gagnon died in action on that day.
